Meet the Visionaries behind VPhA-USA

  • Binh Tran, PharmD

    Immediate Past President

    Dr. Binh Tran graduated from the Saigon School of Pharmacy in Viet Nam. After landing in Indiana in 1975, she worked at Miles Laboratories, where she could study and earn a M.S. in Microbiology from the University of Notre Dame. Later, she completed a PharmD at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St Louis, MO.

    Dr. Tran is co-founder of American (formerly Asian) Pacific Health Foundation, and clinical professor of pharmacy (Vol.) at UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, where she was recognized by the Founding Faculty for outstanding volunteer service and pharmacy practice through the Binh and Ton Tran Endowed Scholarship Fund.

    She joined Hep B National Task Force and Hep B United coalition since their inception. As immediate Past President of the Vietnamese Pharmacists Association in the USA, Binh continues working with pharmacists and pharmacy students from all schools of pharmacy in Southern California and UC system to expand the scope of pharmacy practice in public health and optimize pharmaceutical care for patients in all settings.

  • Tam Phan, PharmD, AAHIVP

    President

    Tam Phan, PharmD, AAHIVP is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at USC Mann, where he specializes in providing patient-centered care to LGBTQ+ communities and individuals living with HIV. With a passion for advancing health equity, Dr. Phan integrates his expertise into pharmacy education and advocacy. As an educator, Dr. Phan teaches and develops curricula for undergraduate pharmacology programs at USC.

    Dr. Phan’s professional journey includes a community pharmacy residency at USC Mann, where he earned a teaching certificate alongside his Doctor of Pharmacy degree. His training featured clinical experiences at the LAC+USC Maternal Child and Adolescent Adult and 5-P-21 clinics, focusing on HIV care. Previously, he served as Clinical Pharmacy Program Coordinator at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, where he established and expanded pharmacy services for LGBTQ+ patients and those living with HIV. His practice interests include primary care, HIV prevention and management, LGBTQ+ health, and comprehensive medication management.

  • Micah Hata, PharmD, APh

    Vice President of External Affairs

    Dr. Micah Hata is an Associate Professor at Western University of Health Sciences (WesternU) College of Pharmacy and Vice President of Internal Affairs for the Vietnamese Pharmacists Association (VPhA). He practices in community pharmacies in Los Angeles and Orange County, with a focus on advancing community pharmacy practice.

    Dr. Hata is the Residency Program Director for the WesternU/Ralphs PGY1 Community Pharmacy Practice Residency Program and a leader in educating senior citizens about Medicare Part D. His academic and research interests center on implementing medication therapy management services to enhance patient care in community pharmacy settings.

  • Kevin Dinh, PharmD

    Vice President of Internal Affairs & Buying Group Chair

    Kevin Dinh, PharmD is a dedicated pharmacist and the owner of May Pharmacy. He graduated from Western University of Health Sciences in 2021 and is passionate about providing high-quality healthcare to his community, particularly to the local Vietnamese population. Kevin believes in building strong patient relationships and providing personalized care to each individual.

  • Christina Cao, PharmD

    Vice President for Professional Development

    Dr Christina Cao graduated from the University of Florida, College of Pharmacy in 2004. She completed her Ambulatory Care Residency Program in 2005. In 2021, she obtained her MBA degree with emphasis in Leadership and Human Resource. 

    Christina Cao is a proven executive with local, regional and national experience in healthcare settings within both inpatient and outpatient environments. Proactive team leader with ability to: develop innovation solutions and process improvement; leverage combination of technology and management savvy for success in matrix environment. Demonstrated expertise in: CA State Board of Pharmacy Law and Regulation Requirement; project management, strategic planning and cost saving initiatives.

  • Mary Ngo, PharmD, BCMTMS

    Community Outreach Coordinator

    Dr. Mary Ngo attended Chapman University for both undergraduate and pharmacy graduate programs and completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2019 at the age of 23. Up until 2022, she worked as an outpatient pharmacist and has had an active role in organizing health fairs and precepting students within Southern California. She was thus awarded the GoodRx 2021 Breakout Pharmacist Award for her early accomplishments as a new practitioner. As a pharmacist who had taken the non-traditional route towards residency, she completed her PGY-1 pharmacy residency at VA Medical Center, San Diego in June 2023. She currently works as an ambulatory care clinical pharmacist at AltaMed Health Services. Her pharmacy interests have been in diabetes, academia, MTM, pain management, geriatrics and health literacy. In her post-graduate years, she has served multiple leadership roles in various pharmacy organizations including OCPhA, CSHP, and VPhA and enjoys creating graphics, digital media, and dance choreography. In VPhA-USA, she serves as a community outreach coordinator for the organization, working with non-profit organizations and pharmacy schools in Southern California to plan preventative health service events to the underserved community.

    Treasurer

     A Pharmacist with 24 years of experience in medication quality management regulatory compliance, pharmacy operations, prescription preparation and delivery, dosages, and drug filling, supervise, monitor and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of patient care provided by pharmacy staff and effectively managing daily activity with regards to effective operations, MTM and communications. Responsible for the appropriate budgeting, purchasing, control and security of all drug products and medical supplies.
